E-mail checking in Spam Protector

What does the e-mail checking option do in the Spam Protector plugin? I thought it might verify that an e-mail address exists, but it appears that if a user just enters string@string.string it will allow a comment to post.

Is this correct?

We're looking for a plugin that would send an e-mail to that address to verify that it's real and require the user to click a link to verify it. We moderate all comments right now, but we'd like this as a way to prevent identity spoofing of public figures in our area.

Thanks.

Hi!

It's only a very basic verification query that only checks for the "@" sign.

That would need to be coded/created first, yes.
