Disappearing admin interface

I started this thread over in plug-ins forum mistakenly, very sorry I was not paying attention closely enough when I posted. Maybe admin can move the thread over here?
Here is the previous thread, short as it may be:

I have de-installed serendipity, dropped all the db tables and started over. After re-installing and going through initial setup, all seeemd fine, I had the admin panel interface back as expected.
I made a couple of changes in Personal Settings, then saved - still OK. Then I clicked on the Configuration link and the whole panel changed like before where it is now moslty blank white space except there are links at top on the left that say:
Frontpage
Back to weblog
Logout
and on the right there are links:
Serendipity Homepage
Serendipity Documentation
Official Blog
Forums
Spartacus
Bookmarklet
In the top header there is the words "Serendipity Administration Suite" and it indicates that I am logged in as an administrator.
I am completely baffled, any help is appreciated. Where to start looking?

Try this at: http://***YourSerendipityURL***/serendipity_admin.php?serendipity[adminModule]=personal and see if you still have access to the personal settings page.
If you do still have access, consider changing back some of your personal settings to the defaults one at a time to see if you get your configuration page back. Try to narrow it down. Maybe one of the settings is wrecking things.
If you don't still have access, is it possible that you changed your access level or group memberships?
You might also want to try and take a look at http://***YourSerendipityURL***/serendipity_admin.php?serendipity[adminModule]=users and [adminModule]=groups if you can.
Good luck!

Thanks for responding WonkoDsane. I can login OK at url you provided, but the admin panel is still basically blank as previously described - no access to any settings at all.
After the second install I did not touch any settings having to do with access levels or groups at all. Remember, that at the top it says "logged in as administrator". This would seem to indicate that it is not a problem with access levels or groups - what do you think?
I am going to un-install-re-install again to get the admin panel back and try a few tests without changing any settings at all to see if it will mess up again without even changing settings at all.
Meanwhile, if you have any other ideas I am all EARS!

Definitely unusual behavior.
What are the settings you are changing?
Once you get your reinstall done, I'd recommend going through and making the settings changes one at a time, log out, log back in, to see which setting is breaking everything.
There's not much on the personal settings page that can go wrong except if you were to remove yourself from the administrator usergroup or change your access level to something other than administrator.
I've also personally screwed up some stuff by not paying attention and changing the blog language, but obviously that is something easy to notice when viewing the site.
Tell us what settings you were altering so we can narrow things down. It seems like if everything works fine before you make the alterations, then the problem must be in one of the settings.

Ahhh, sweet resolution. I was in sync with ya WonkoDSane. After re-install I went into the Personal Settings section again, and looked at what settings I was changing more carefully.
There is a setting called "forbid making entries" which I was checking off as "yes" thinking this was a global setting to prevent other users from making entires. Ya right! LOL Its in the Personal section, like holy cow!!!
If I leave that baby all alone and set to "no" everything seems to be fine.
OK, I hope this is a better day. Thanks a bunch for being willing to help.
