Extended properties for entries (known bug?)

Hi,
I'm setting up a system where an editor can post various submissions sent to him, but he then needs to change the author to the user in question.
I've looked into using the extended properties for entries, and then simply change the author to the user in question.
I go through the process either when creating a new entry or editing an existing one, but the author always shows as the originating author. And the value never 'sticks'.
Is this a known bug or am I simply trying to do something that I'm not supposed to here ?
Any feedback would be appreciated
Regards,
Ket

OK,
This is a little odd, I logged in as a different user, they did not have permissions to edit the authors.
So I then logged back in as site admin. I could then change the porperties fo the Author.
So it seemed that If I created the article as site admin, I could then not change the authorid for an entry.
I will try this again and see if this is the case.
Regards,
Ket

This still seems to be a bug. When I create an article as Admin, then I can't change the author.
On the edit screen, I change the author, and save, and it looks OK on the edit screen (it saves the author correctly), but in the preview, the author is still Admin.
When I exit the edit screen, then re-enter the edit screen, the author is back to being Admin again.
Has anyone looked into how to fix this?

Hi!
Yes, only the owner of an entry can change the ownership to someone else. Otherwise, foreign people could simply "steal" an article.

I see. But I thought the point of being the Admin was to have total control. I can understand why another author shouldn't be able to control who the author is, but shouldn't Admin be able to? I hardly see the point in having that field in the extended properties.
I was looking through the code as well, and it seems to perform a check to see if the user has the right to change the author using the group permissions. Since Admin has the right to change author properties, then it seems to say that it's possible to change it. Just somehow it doesn't work.

Hi!
Yes, I mean, when you are the admin you should be able to change entries to other users. But an other user is not able to re-assign an author, if he hasn't created the entry.
So I read your post as if you tried to use a "normal" account to change the ownership. Are you sure you are using an admin user with userlevel=admin and group-membership of "administrator", that has all privileges checked?

Garvin

Yes, I'm sure of my status. It is the default Admin account that is set up right at the start. The Admin group rights are all checked, so I have permission to anything and everything.
I've tried making an article as another author. That author cannot change who the author is, because they do not have permission to.
Then I login as Admin and try to change the author, but it doesn't stick, just like was noted above.
Any ideas?

Hi!
Which Serendipity version are you using?

I'm using 1.4.1.
Should I be using 1.5? I thought it might still be unstable since it's in beta.

Hi!
Sadly I can only say that with my serendipity 1.5 version I can't reproduce the issue. I am able to change the authorship owner to other people as admin without a problem.
So if you can, upgrading to 1.5 would help a lot (use the latest snapshot). In fact, 1.5 is more stable than the 1.4 versions, some minor bugs have been fixed. 1.5 will be final hopefully this month, the only reason it's not released yet is that I'm lacking the time to write up an release announcement and upload the release files.

I was unable to recreate this problem in both 1.5 beta 2 and 1.4.1 full release.

I apologize if this has been resolved in another string but I'm having this exact problem. I am logged in as admin but when I attempt to post with someone else as the author, it reverts to my name when published. I was able to post for this author before. The problem just started. Thanks.
