Ok being the jackass that I am, I was trying to back up mySql but was not able to access it through phpmyadmin. So I thought to open up Serendipity_admin.php go to configurations and change the set PW for the Database PW. Long story short...

I just got off the phone with Godaddy (I don't know why I waste my time with them, they always seem to answer every question with a "That sounds like a script problem, and we don't handle script problems") and they had informed to that I should uninstall and reinstall serendipity. But that seems to not be a logical solution considering that I already have a database set up with lots of post, images, and information already stored.

I tried accessing my database through Godaddy's little "Hosting Manager" applet but it does'nt (and never has) show a serendipity database even exisits.

WHAT DO I DO????

I don't know how to fix this, but I do know that I need to fix it 10 minutes ago for security reasons....

Can you access the file serendipity_config_local.inc.php in your blogs root?

ok, I opened the file and I am able to change the PW, only there never was a PW there so I'm not sure what to change it to?

When I originally let Godaddy install Serendipity on my domain, it never set up mySQL, well kinda... For the last 5 months I've been posting to some database but it never showed up under "My Database" in the Hosting Manager applet for Godaddy. I never knew that it was supposed to so I never questioned the mistake. Now I have a database that Godaddy says doesn't exist and since I changed the PW in the Serendipity_admin_php, I don't know what the original one was.

Appearently when Godaddy set up the DB it added "298782_" to my user name, which I'm guessing is just a random number, but I tried adding "298782_" to what I think might have been my original PW and still o change.

I need to find out how to recover a Password from a mySQL username?

If you don't have a backup of the previous config_local file, only godaddy can tell you the password to the original database!

If your s9y was always running in a foreign database, they should be able to tell you the credentials to that database...

Thanks so much for the suggestion on where I might be able to retrieve MySql password.

After once again calling Godaddy, this time with a bit more confidence thanks to gavinhicking's affirmation, I spoke with Bill; a kind speaking representative with Godaddy. We went through the same procedures that my original Godaddy rep told me to go though:

-Open the Hosting Manager through Godaddy.com
-Scroll down to the section called "Database", and Click on the Thumb labeled "MySql"
-Then press the "OPEN MANAGER" button

This is exactly where we once again ran into the problem, that being that a database for Serendipity does not show up.

Billy then told be exactly what the original rep said which was "there isn’t a database for Serendipity, so if you uninstall and re-install through "Metropolis" a MySql will be set-up.” Which is exactly when I informed William that I had already had a working database set up with 6 months worth of information already written on to it, and then proceeded to give him my Database username, and Database Name which I was fortunate to have still stored on my "serendipity_congig_local.inc.php" file on my server, as well as on my "Serendipity Administration Suite Page" from my original installation that I was smart enough to make a printout of.

Willy then put me on hold so that he could speak with their resident "Hosting Administrative Expert", and returned with this explanation for the "error":

Apparently before Godaddy incorporated the auto-install application "Hosting Metropolis", Godaddy didn’t set up a MySql database that can be accessed through their "Hosting Manager" applet when "free software" like 'Serendipity' was auto-installed, so it never appeared under the "MySql" area in the "Database" section of Godaddy's "Hosting Manager".

The rep assured me that there was only a short grace period in which Godaddy noticed the mistake so not many other customers may experience the same problem.

Long story a little less long... He told me that I have to back-up my database and then uninstall and re-install 'Serendipity' (which at first infuriated me because that was what I was trying to do when I got into this predicament in the first place, and exactly what I can't do without MySql password that I was calling HIM for), but then informed me that GoDaddy could do it for free and ask me if I would like him to.

He put me on hold for one last time and gave me an excitation # (Basically a reference #) and told me that with in 24 hours the Database would be backed up to my server and then I would be able to uninstall and re-install serendipity.

So for anyone who might have this problem in the future where your 'Serendipity' MySql isn’t showing up in Godaddy's PhpmyAdmin applet simply call GoDaddy reassure them that you are not a complete idiot or a simple pushover and give them your Database name and Database username (found in your "serendipity_congig_local.inc.php" file located in your Serendipity root dir on your server) and ask them to back it up so that you may uninstall Serendipity, and then re-install it through "Hosting Metropolis".

I'll post back in 24 to let you guys know if it actually worked of if a few GoDaddy Reps will be receiving an extended weekend leave from work.
