MonsterID

Stumbled over MonsterID this morning and instantly fell in love with those monsters  So I sacrified my lunch break and patched the Gravatar/Favatar plugin to enable monster display. You can see it in action and/or try it out by commenting on this blog entry (with some fake/faulty URL or a URL that doesn't come with a favicon). Go ahead, enjoy, and tell me how you like it. The code needs a little more polishing, but of course I will release it before long.

In case anyone is interested in adding Monsters to his comments section, I just uploaded the modified gravatar plugin with MonsterID support. It's based on the current gravatar plugin, so you can simply download the archive (http://blog.sperr-objekt.de/index.php?s ... &thiscat=7) and extract it over your current plugin. Just make sure you back up your files beforehand and adjust your options according to your needs after the installation.

Again, the question: Should we add this to cvs? It's a nice feature, but not that important, I guess.

You can see the plugin in action in both of my blogs, so you might want to take a look first.

Finally :)
Looks great and works like a charme.
Although I would like the configuration better if I could simply select MonsterId as my preferred avatar type and not having to select gravatar first and the MonsterId overide just one line later.

Update: It seems the plugin causes segmentation faults on my hosting system on certain entries (may be related to the number of comments, not sure):

Code: Select all

[Mon Mar 19 14:46:24 2007] [error] [client 62.214.73.98] php-script: line 4: 15689 Segmentation fault /usr/bin/php, referer: http://rowi.standardleitweg.de/archives/P10.html
I've disabled the plugin for now and everything works fine again. I guess this is not a direct fault auf the plugin rather than a problem of the shared hosting system my s9y installation runs on.

Well, I agree with you about the config option, but I still have to figure out the best way to go for this  Thanks for trying it out anyway.
