Hi!
phpMyAdmin is unrelated and unrequired for Serendipity, please go to the phpMyAdmin forums for installation help.

Hi!
For backups you need access to your MySQL server, so you could do it with any mysql server tool (MySQL GUI, phpMyAdmin, MySQL console), so either one would do fine.
So if you want to use phpMyAdmin, you should find installation help on
www.phpmyadmin.net.

Garvin

thanks garvin,
but,
this is really too much for me. i hoped i can do it myself, seems i have not equal skills for upgrade my blog.
what a pity my friend who instaled for me serendipity on his ftp is still too busy to manage an upgrade

(sometimes is time agains us) so, i have to be patient.
anyway, thank you again.

Hi!
Ah, if a backup is too hard for you, you can perform the upgrade also without a backup. I've yet not heard of any s9y user where the upgrade killed entries.
Doesn'T your provider offer a pre-installed phpMyAdmin for backup purposes?
Best regards,
Garvin

seems no
in my web folder i have only 3 directories: awstats (include .htaccess file), blog, webalizer (include webalizer.current, webalizer.hist and usage.html pages)
but if there is no problem with upgrade without backup, i can try it.

sorry, I do not mean the s9y-admin-panel. I mean the admin-panel to your hosting account.
Or, is this no regular hosting account? Who is your hosting provider?

Your phpMyAdmin installation is most likely never located in your webspace.
If you have Confixx to administer your Webspace Account there's a Menu called "Databases" in your left sidebar. There should be the link to phpMyAdmin.

fine!
and BTW: a solution in this or in similar situation could be the plugin_backup.
