spam, spam, spam

If there is a good FAQ, please point me in the right direction. Recently upgraded to 1.1 - don't think that's a factor but just threw it out there. My very modest blog is getting killed by spam right now. 500+ a day comments. Most are to posts old enough that they require moderation so they don't show up on the blog. My concern is that all this takes up database space. I use the spam block plugins, but these spammers are automated to the point where every new spam originates from a slightly different IP.

One could spend all day blocking each offending URL and never get anywhere. And there are so many comments it's time consuming to click and delete each one.

Help?

PS - love this software. Great product. Thanks for the great work.

500 a day is very frustrating, a few months ago my site was getting about 1200 a day, I fixed the problem by setting 'How to treat comments made via APIs' to reject. It kills them off pretty quickly, but it also disables trackbacks. In the end I decided it was better to deal with spam and not allow trackbacks.
