Template problems

I use the Spartacus Plugin to install plugins and themes. The Plugins work perfectly, but the themes don't work. It doesn't matter, which template from your site I try to install. Every template only displays the front page, but no header and sidebar graphics. Already, when I installed the new version of serendipity 1.1, no headers appeared. What do I do wrong?

Is your /templates-folder writable (chmod 777)?

Yes, it has the 765 mode. Due to the installation doc, this should just fine.

I'll deleted the whole serendipity from the server. It's just too complicated. With Wordpress I never had these problems. I will reinstall Wordpress from scratch. Maybe than I can finally start blogging without any errors.

Pete, Serendipity is incredibly reliable but with any php based application errors can happen. I'm sorry to read you've decided to discontinue using Serendipity, but might I suggest that either your paths were wrong, or some of the Serendipity files weren't properly uploaded.
Please remember that at this time of year many of us just aren't able to put in as much time on the forums as we would normally, so I'm sorry you didn't get the support that you would have done outside of the silly season.
Also, please don't cross post on these forums, we will always find your thread, so I've removed the duplicate in the bugs forum.

Dear Carl,
thank you for the reply. It's sad, but true, WP never had these kind of failures. I will give it one last try to download S9Y again and will invest 2 more hours to find out, what kind of file permission must be set to make the templates work.
Further I apologize for the duplicate post. Usually I'm no fan of forums. Garthin helped me alreay, thanks again. But due to the fact, that your docs just explain the installing and upgrading, it's hard for a newbie to find a way to solve problems like plugin management. I had to look in the FAQ to find out.
I know, it's not only a silly, it's complete dumb season. Due to your help I'll give one more try. Maybe you, as one of the admins, could ask or make a topic, if anybody else could have experienced the same bug like me.
Thank you.

slow down folks. I am installing s9y for the 2nd time today ans it starts to annoy me. understanding expert needn't be carl, it could be anybody. now i wait, until the upload is finished. than i try to install a theme by unsing spartacus. i downloaded a new zip of s9y again and if it doesn't work after this upload, i'll bann it forever from the server. s9y is not such a bad thing, but wp was quite easier to handle, i can't help it. and sorry again garvin for using the comments for asking. it'll never happen again.
btw. the uploas has finished. keep the thumbs pressed. if it works this time, i'll give s9y another try, otherwise it'll never see a database on my server again. (a bit angry ....)

so far it all looks good, keep going, and make sure the templates folder and plugins folder are both writeable for spartacus to work

Pete, could you by any chance supply an URL so we can have a look at it ourselves? Sometimes 6 eyes see more than 2 ...

I already found out, what it was. davy was right. if you take a direct look in the manual. you will see, all required folders must be set to 777. 765 was not enough. this was the bug. now, where i know, everything works, i will setup it tomorrow, for today my patience has reached it's maximum. i'd like to thank all for your help. good n8t.
