Hey!

Is there already some documentation on creating custom sidebars? I can only find something on the config.inc.php file, but that's quiet short.

Am I missing something, or isn't there any information?

Are you looking for information on how to program your own plugins or how to add a plugin to your sidebar?

I was looking for some information on the new v1.1 and sidebars. I read that the functionality of sidebars is extended, but how to use it in templates?

The extended functionality is mostly in the admin interface. It's now much easier to move plugins between sidebars or hide them. It's also possible to define multiple sidebars, instead of the default right and left. The templates can access the new sidebars using their names, much like index.tpl currently accesses the default sidebars.
