float a picture

I am trying to float a picture on the top of my banner. I want half the picture to be within the banner range and the other half to the left.
how would I do this? I was trying, but if I do an absolute posistion and just punch in the Pixels, if somone who uses a smaller screen than me it pushes the picture out of place
