Sidebar disappeared and other weird stuff

I was adding plugins (the last one I tried to add was weather), then all of a sudden, there are no items in the sidebar on the main page. Weather says it's already installed, but isn't in the list of sidebar plugins for selection.

[ADDENDUM] I Noticed now also, that all the messing around I did with plugins leading up to the problem has resulted in those plugin folders being owned by httpd:httpd, rather than my normal login... I can't delete them or change perms, although I am the folder owner...[End of Addendum]

I can still log in as admin by visiting the serendipity_admin.php link.

All sidebar items are unchecked and won't take if I do check them off (so that they show on the main blog).

Can't seem to fix it though, and the other funny behavior is that I can now only see / manage sidebar plugins from the configure plugins link - no others.

Any suggestions?

Hi!

The weather plugin has a dependency on the PEAR weather module being loaded; is that existing on your system?

If not, you should try to remove the file via FTP.

Spartacus downloads files with the owner of the PHP webserver; oyu can configure the owner and permissions in the spartacus plugin configuration, though. If you can no longer edit/remove files downloaded by spartacus, check the FAQ on www.s9y.org about the simple "fixperm.php" script and use it on the files/directories downloadde by spartacus.

Sidebar items can only be removed if you check the checkbox next to them and then click on the "Delete" button below the plugin listing.

Does that help you further?

Best regards,
Garvin

Thank you

Yes, that helped -
Used the script to chmod to 777 (all files except all the graphics in the icons - to save time), then deleted the weather plugin files.

Very handy script, thanks. Maybe I should learn more php, although my experience with serendipity is that I really don't need to know that much.

I have to say, I tried MT 3.17 and 3.2 (also now tested 3.3) - seems to be for technical types only. WordPress (very easy, but not much control), and a couple of others before Serendipity - which seems to be just about the perfect balance between all the other contenders.

I'll poke around for pear before I mess with that plugin again, although now that I can more easily fix stuff, I fear I may become more adventurous...

Dave
