Space between blog entry and footer line

I think I may be missing something simple here

I have loaded Serendipity and am really impressed. However I find I always have a space between the end of the text in the current post to the footer line which is equivalent to the lower end of the righthand side bar.

Have I messed something up during changing settings in the css or is this normal?

Is there anyway to force the footer, and the subsequent historical posts, to start after the post text has ended?
