I've been getting a lot of trackback spam lately. S9Y does mark some of it as 'awaiting moderation' but a lot more is allowed.

Is there some way to require all trackbacks to be moderated as the default action?

Yes, you can configure the spamblock plugin to set "API-made comments" to auto-moderate.

Also have a look at blog.s9y.org about recent plugin versions of the spamblock plugin and its new capabilities.
