I hope I'm not asking this in the wrong forum, but I need a blogging "solution" that meets the following spec:

The site will support 5 languages: English, Spanish, Italian, German, and French. When a person comes to this site, they will choose their region / language. Global posts must be viewable by everyone in thier language of choice. Regional posts must be viewable only by users who have chosen that region, also in their language of choice. For example, users who choose English / Great Britian will not see posts that are specifically set to English / United States. Both these user groups will see the Global posts available in English. Another example would be that users who have chosen, lets say, Germany as their region and French as their language, will only see Global posts in French and German Regional posts that are available in French.

Does this make sense? Is Serendipity capable of handling something like this? For the developers out there: How much work would it take to get a plug-in built?

I'm not sure if you even need multilingual support -- you could already map all those things by using Categories and Subcategories?

Having translations of entries that are then only viewable for specific languages should work as well, though. Using versions of the multilingual event plugin and the languagechooser sidebar/event plugin, you should be able to restrict translations of unique posts.

I'd say, give it a test-drive.
