Categories / Users / Write Permissions

Post by heinsius »

Hi,

I am trying to setup a blog for a select group of people. Within the blog, I want to setup categories that are only writable by the individuals who "own" that category. Meaning, when a particular user goes to add an entry, they will only see "No categories" or "My Name Category" in the dropdown list of categories. I do not want to allow anyone else to put entries into other people's categories.

The setup I have so far is this:

- All users have been setup
- Usergroups have been setup for each user, and in the user settings the user is assigned as a member of their own group, the only member
- Categories have been setup for each user (by name) and read set to All Authors, write set to the selected usergroup (1 individual member)

Problem: when I log in as a user, any user, I can edit all of the categories even though I have set the write permission to usergroup that contains the one user (not the person logged in)

Any help with configuration of this would be highly appreciated.

Hi!

First thing is you should ensure that you're using Serendipity 1.0-beta2; the 0.9 versions had a problem with assigning permissions to usergroups properly.

Second thing is to check that your usergroups should not have the "adminCategoriesMaintainOthers" privilege, because that enables them to write to other people's categories.
