unable to add category

Hi there i am stranegly for some reason now not able to add categories in the admin. When i do, the page times out and i get a max execution timeout error. Any ideas there ?
What exactly does the error tell you?
How many categories do you have? Are you logged in as an administrator? Which Serendipity version are you using? What is your URL? Which event plugins do you have installed? What exactly do you enter when you add a new category?
