Hi,

First I have to say thanks so far to many of you with the help of this forum I have managed to install serendipity and it is working fine despite the ç or á being displayed like a <?>. This only happens in the top frame where the title is and on the calendar, blog entries are fine. I've gathered it's a locales problem and may need more research for me to solve. The calendar doesn't bother me too much and I'm going to put an image on the top frame anyway.

My first question would be, how can I use the same s9y installation to manage an english and a portuguese version of the weblog? They would be selectable from a single start page and do not need to be connected together other than by a html nugget link.

Possible? Very complicated? How could I better do it?

The first solution that comes to my mind is to use the "Multilingual entries" plugin, because then you could maintain the same blog with two languages.

If that is actually not what you're looking for, you have these options:

1. You can use a "Shared installation" of Serendipity to power other blogs from the same codebase. However this has some requirements for your webserver (you must be able to change your include_path in the vhost to point to your central s9y directory). And it is not SO easy to setup. Docs can be found on s9y.org.

2. You can use "faked sub-blogs" by creating a category "Portuguese Weblog". You can then use the plugin "Extended properties of categories" and apply a different theme to this category, which will then make your blog look different when being in the "Portuguese" Category. You can also use the "Toggle Sidebar state" Plugin, which will allow you to hide certain sidebar plugins when being in the "Portuguese" blog category. This method then lets you use your category as some kind of sub-blog. In that case, you should configure your blog to use UTF-8 charset for all languages, so that you don'T have a problem with charsets, as all entries are only stored in a single blog.

Last, but not least, the easiest way would be to install a seperate Serendipity installations.

Option number 2 seems like the way to go for how I want it, it's a good way to cheat it to do what I want without having to break my head too much, the hints on customization will also come in handy.

I also have tried to follow closely how that s9y + Gallery2 discussion is developing, these are both great apps that really complement each other, I hope someone comes up with something soon,.
