no lay-out/theme is displayed

I installed serendipity like is says in the instruction. But when I open the index page it only displays the plane text. This without ant lay-out or theme..

Hi!
You have enabled the 'embedded' mode. If you do so, you need to take care of emitting HTML-headers/footer on your own - because embedded mode is available to use s9y within an existing page framework. So please disable the embedded mode
