top refererer

Hi,

I noticed a small problem with the top referer getting spammed. This is very annoying. Is somebody working on this problem?

I'm willing to take a shot and try to make it possible for the admin to remove the url spam. I think the top ten links should stand in the plugin screen with each time a button on the side that blocks that url. When you push it the url should be added to the spam filter.

Where is the spam filter or do you have other proposals?

There's not much to work on - referrer lists are so easily spammable, there's nothing you can do about that. You can only enter a list of blocked hosts in the s9y configuration, but you'll need to adapt to new spammer sites every day.

You can work on the symptoms by deleting those URLs, but I don't think that it's really worth the effort, since it's too much maintenance that no user would really like to take?

The referrer plugins are inside the include/plugins_internal.inc.php files, if you still want to have a go at it. Of course it would be appreciated and we would love to add it to Serendipity. I myself just think it's a fight against windmills for referrer spam...

Garvin

Hmmm, there could be some general database on the net with URL that should be blocked. If a URL is submited for more then 5 times it should be blocked unless its an aproved url. This list should be auto submited each time a user in S9Y kills a link. (only my fantasy at work)

The common sense sollution would be: if you delete a refer it automaticaly adds to the spam list. This way its sort of maintaineble...

That would be pretty nice, but such an infrastructure costs a lot of traffic, and thus a lot of money.

Yes, that would work, but would need coding. I'd feel it like building a skyscraper into a place where you have earthquakes every second day - so kind of useless to get it built there... ;-)
