Great software, few questions

Post by sandie »

Hi

Been running serendipity for a few days now and its totally brillliant. There is a few things I wanted to ask.

Is there a plugin which will give an opt in email disctribution list so that when the blog is updated and email is sent to the list saying updated or even send the whole entry?

In the general setting page what is the field "Blog's Email Address" for? Is this the same as the one in the personal setting page?

Also, is it possible to update the blog using the browser on a/my mobile phone?

Thanks

Hi Sandie,

I wanted this as well, and s9y does actually have this ability. What you need to do is go into plugin management, then add new event plugin. The first thing to do is install Spartacus if you haven't already done so. Once this is installed the list of plugins will dramatically increase.

You then need to install the 'Send entries vie E-Mail' plugin. The configuration screen for this plugin gives you the options to do everything you want to do.
The email address you specify can be a mailing list address if you want.

if you use Spartacus your plugin directory needs to be writeable.

if this doesnt work, please post the error message here.

Hi!

The first question is basically answered [however to run it like a mailinglist, you'll need to utilize Yahoo mailinglists or so. You can search the forums for "yahoo" and might find some interesting stuff].

Generally though, RSS is the way to go.

On to your second question: "Blog's email address" is the used "From" mail address when your blog sends mail notifications about new trackback or comments or something like that. So it must not generally be the same mail address.
Also, is it possible to update the blog using the browser on a/my mobile phone?
Using the XML-RPC posting plugin, and a mobile XML-RPC posting client, this should be possible, yes!

Thanks Garvin

Also, I have enabled the announce entries plugin and get this error

Sending XML-RPC ping to host rpc.pingomatic.com...
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: is_a() in /web/sites/sandie486/hornytimes.com/blog/bundled-libs/HTTP/Request.php on line 572

Pingomatic is the first on the list

Very best regards

Sandy: Sadly this can happen because of an outdated PHP version. You'll need to upgrade your PHP to at least 4.2.0.

4.3.11 at least though is the best way to go, it contains many serious bugfixes.
