IS there an automatic way of generating pretty urls like
http://yourdomain.com/2005/11/27/23-is- ... ke-flickr/

so there is no index.php? in it.

Yes, if your Apache server supports allowOverride all or mod_rewrite.
See "URL Rewriting" option in your favourite Serendipity version since 0.2.
