Blog doesn't render 100% of the time since upgrading to 0.9

Hi,
Since upgrading to s9y 0.9, loading the main page doesn't always render completely. It will print the <head> portion of the HTML and start the <body> a bit and then dies right after this:
<table id="mainpane">
<tr>
<td id="serendipityLeftSideBar" valign="top">
Now this only happens about 10% of the time and reloading the page corrects it. Any idea what might be the problem? This is using the s9y default theme.

What's your URL?
This may be caused by certain plugins. Which plugins are you using? Especially the Remote RSS Feed plugin can cause such trouble if the remote URL is down.

Garvin

Okay, the plugins that can make problems are:
Remote RSS
Weather
Coppermine Random Images
Can you set those sidebar plugins to "hidden" and look if that changes anything?
Especially the remote rss plugin has been changed for 0.9 - if we can detect that one of those plugins is making trouble, we can investigate further. It might also help if you have access to your servers error logs?

Garvin

Yes, I have access to the server logs. I've been keeping an eye on error_log but nothing of interest seems to be in there. Anything in specific you'd like me to check?
I set the RSS feed plug-in to hidden. I'll try that and see if the page still shows the rendering problem. If it does, I'll disable the other plug-ins as well.
I'll let you know how it goes, thanks!

Okay, that's great. Well, error_log would interest me in terms of timeout messages, or PHP Errors/Warnings

Hi Garvin,
Since hiding the RSS feed plug-in, the blog hasn't run in to the rendering problem - that i've noticed. This plug-in is most likely the problem.
I guess something changed between the previous release and 0.9.
What can we do now? I checked the error_log and there are no PHP warnings or errors.

Which Sites/URLs are you syndicating? It might very well be their URLs/Hosts that make the problems, if they have sporadic downtimes?

Garvin

The only site i'm getting an RSS feed from is:
http://www.historychannel.com/global/feeds/tdihrss.jsp
The uptime is pretty good. Never caught the site being down. And of course, this was only a problem after the .9 upgrade

Actually the .9 update should have made it better, because it checks more of the RSS connections.
Can you try this plugin version:
http://nopaste.php-q.net/171667
I've added debuging there, which writes to a "rss.log" file in your s9y root. Can you see what gets written in your log?

Garvin

Hi Garvin,
I installed the new plug-in code and un-hide the plug-in.
The very first time i clicked on my blog, the page didn't render. I think the pretty much confirms that the remote_rss plugin is the source of the problem.
The contents of the rss.log are:
2005-11-12 09:53] Cachefile does not existing.
[2005-11-12 09:53] URLCheck succeeded. Touching /home/htdocs/lengoldenstein.com/templates_c/remoterss_cache_httpwwwhistorychannelcomglobalfeedstdihrssjsp.dat
[2005-11-12 09:53] Running Onyx Parser
[2005-11-12 09:53] Caching Feed (135 bytes)
[2005-11-12 09:53] Feed cache written
[2005-11-12 09:53] RSS Plugin finished.
[2005-11-12 09:53] Got feed from cache /home/htdocs/lengoldenstein.com/templates_c/remoterss_cache_httpwwwhistorychannelcomglobalfeedstdihrssjsp.dat
Could it have something to do with the cache file not exist or being out of date and when the cache is updated, for whatever reason, the whole script exists?
