Japanese entries search

I have just setup my serendipity forum and everything works fine, including Quicksearch, except for Japanese languaje
The Japanese entries do show up in the blog, but when I enter some of the terms in them in the search box, it fails to detect them.
Can anyone give me feedback on this (I searched the forums, but there seems to be nothing... or maybe it is there, but written in Japanese so the search doesn't work ?
