Fresh install. Someone added comments to a blog and when you try to view the comments in the blog area, you get this:
Warning: Smarty error: unable to read resource: "file:" in /serendipity/bundled-libs/Smarty/libs/Smarty.class.php on line 1088
But if I view the comments in the admin section, the comments display as normal. Any ideas?

Did you check and make sure that your templates_c directory and all files therein are chmod 777?

I did and they are. I saw that in another post. Anything else I can try?

Can you send the actual output of the directory listing of your templates_c directory?

This error can really only happen if the directory is not writable, or if you configured a wrong directory in the s9y configuration (this is stored in the serendipity_config table for values like serendipityPath).

Your listing does not contain the output for the "templates_c" directory (only the files inside there are shown in your listing), can you also check that?

Sorry, guess I'm not sure what you mean.

Not only files have permissions, also directories have permissions. You could list them on linux like this:
This is what I need now, the permissions of the directory -- not the files inside that.

Okay, that's great. But it'S right, so the error must be something else.

Can you check your serendipity_config table and see what paths settings are there? Especially serendipityPath is important to be the right directory with a trailing slash...best, post your path settings here!

Here is what I have:

serendipityPath - home/content/i/w/b/iwbwemf/html/serendipity/
uploadPath - uploads/
serendipityHTTPPath - /serendipity/
templatePath - templates/
uploadHTTPPath - uploads/

Your serendipityPath is wrong, it needs to read:
(Slash at the beginning!)

Sorry, I must have cut that off when I copied the paths to send to you, because when I went into the config, the slash is there.

Hm, okay. Then my last guess is that you try to delete all files from your templates_c directory and see if it works then? The files there are cached, so they will be recreated without a problem.

You might also need to check if your server has a central Installation of Smarty that might be included instead of the s9y bundled one?

Ok, I tried that and still no difference. I also checked with my host and they cannot offer any help because they offer Serendipity with one of their higher hosting packages. So I tried some things on your idea of the templates. I kept changing the templates to see if that would make a difference. Looks like the only on that displays the comments is the Kubrick 1.2.6 port template. All of the others give me the error. Does that tell you anything? Thanks.
