ught oh.... thumbnails don't work

I thought if I made added gdlib to the php compile that I would get this feature to work but that doesn't seem to be the case
my phpinfo:
'./configure' '--with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs' '--with-mysql' '--prefix=/usr/local/apache2/php' '--with-config-file-path=/usr/local/apache2/php' '--enable-force-cgi-redirect' '--disable-cgi' '--with-zlib' '--with-bz2' '--with-gettext' '--with-gdbm' '--enable-mbstring' '--with-gd' '--enable-gd-imgstarttf' '--enable-gd-native-tff'
Is something missing from the compile?
What do I need to do to correct this problem?
The media default is "thumbnail" images so this means this is the preferred display of images right?
All I get is a "background grayed" piicture comment.
What can I do to get this working?
Apache 2 ; php 5.04

Can you show me a .serendipityThumb file? I don't know what you mean by "background grayed". Usually what you did should work, if you disable imagemagick in the s9y configuration.

Can you show me a .serendipityThumb file?
Do you mean the text that is inserted by serentipidy in a entry?
I have to be honest I'm not sure exacty what a thumbnail is or is going to look like. My guess is that it's a postage stamp size photo, and that maybe the viewer can click on it and that will enlarge the view of the photo.
gray area: it's the space where the text is displayed with a media image. That's what I get or all I get to displayed by a thumbnail.
if you disable imagemagick in the s9y configuration.
I'm not clear where what file you are speaking of. I looked in "serendipity_config.inc.php" and searched for anything with the name "imagemagick" in it but nothing was found.

With "imagmagick config" I meant when you actually go to your S9y Admin interface and check this option; no need to look into any files.
I don'T really understand what you do and what you expect, so maybe you can describe in depth what you want to do and what is not working to your oppinion?
I've made a small video file how it is usually expected to work:

Under what heading? I believe I've checked each on and don't see anything listed "imagmagick.config"
While writing this reply I was going back and forth in the admin section of the blog. Now coincidently a refresh of the blog is not completing... (unrelated to this thread)... My other serendipity blog site loads so I don't know what's behind this issure.
But as I was saying where is this setting in the admin section because I have not seen it?
I looked at the video... and pretty much was familiar with how to import a picture and load it in a entry... I was just interested in seeing what a "thumbnail" of a picture would be... since serendipity uses this as the default format for pictures in a entry
-----edit entry ------ below -------
restarted a new Firefox and reloading weweartights.org and enter the admin this time without the above reported hangup... don't know what was behind that incident... but it's not a problem now
--- 2nd edit -----
The problem of hanging has raised it's ugly head... it happens when I'm logged in as administrator and select the "configuration"... looking for where ever you keep this "imagmagick" setting...".. once it hangs I can not go back or log out.. this is by far a more immediate problem than fixing or finding how to implement a thumbnail image

Thumbnails are just small versions of the image and automatically created. If in the step where you select an image you see small images - Those are the thumbnails that were created successfully using GDLib!

ah... it's that same problem I was having adding new users which turned out to be something related to the database. I manuallly went in and created a new user with phpMyAdim.
That problem is now with opening the database with "configuration"
what's your email I'll give you the pass word for admi serendipity

Please don't abuse the editing function
Please check your servers error logfiles about indicators for this problem. Look for coredumps of PHP or PHP Fatal Errors. Please also view the HTML source of the page which does not fully load?
My guess is that there are problems with your server and intermediate crashes, which are effective for s9y.
BTW, imagemagick is in the Section "Image Conversion Settings" in Configuration. The exact option is "Use imageMagick" (Yes/No)

Now "configuration" has a problem opening the database
BTW, imagemagick is in the Section "Image Conversion Settings" in Configuration. The exact option is "Use imageMagick" (Yes/No)
this does not get displayed... it's where the problem is in displaying "Configuration" that has come to my attention since starting this thread

Hi!
I'm not trying to view the source html
I know, that's why I'm telling you. That helps debug the problem, if there is any.
.... I'm referring to the page that should load when in adminserendiptiy configuration.... this isn't "now" loading... and this was an issue I reported in a previous thread "but" it was Adding Users then... I seemed to fix it for "add user" by maually using phpMyAdmin. I used this tool to access the database that weweartights.org uses and adding a nother user.
Okay, thanks for telling me this. Then the answer applies that I wrote you in the thread: That I suppose ongoing server issues. You need to talk to your provider/sysadmin to look for connection/network problems - there is a issue with your Server that is unrelated to Serendipity which needs fixing.

Garvin

I'm the provider/admin... my machine is the domain address where the apache and mysql servers reside as well.

I appologise for all these replies to sort through.
Ok... now it's clearer to me what's is and is not happening.
weweartight-org's "S9y Administration Suite" is only able to display
+Database Setting
+Path
+General Settings
It hangs trying to load the remaining sub-sections down to and including
"Image Conversion"
Running my other working "earthly.biz" "S9y Administration Suite" I see the data to each sub heading is briefly listied then the screen changes to just the subheadings only... This is not happening on my weweartights-s9y Admin. Suite"
----edited---- later in the day
I just compared database table listings between both of my s9y blogs
The blog site without the problem "earthly.biz" has 16 database tables
The problem blog site "weweartights" has 15 database tables. The missing table is called "spamblocklog"
