"Comics" plug-in now available

Okay, after wasting a whole day, now there's a plug-in for all those
wannabe web cartoonists who use s9y. I named it "Comics" and here's
the README file contents because I'm tired to type something witty:

---
This plug-in enables you to post webcomics in your blog. The
latest comic will show up on the front page. Each comic page
gets a navigation link to first, previous, next, and last comics
(if they exist). The style for the navigation links is defined
under ".serendipity_comics". Add this class to your template
to customize.

You can control whether the past comics will show up on the
front page as regular entries or not. If you post lots of comics
it may look better to have them not showing up.

Title for the comic is shown in "Latest Comic : (date)" format.
You can choose to hide this. The comic on the front page is
output in raw form without any markups or styles by default for
optimal showing of the graphics. You can choose to apply markups
to make it look like a normal entry if you want.
---

So have fun! Visit my blog for an example of how the plug-in looks like.

It should be downloadable at Sourceforge CVS in a few hours.

Oh, and take a look at my Google quicksearch plug-in, too. Thanks.

Hey, I'm adam hughes, I have questions for people in general. For starters, I've started a webcomic, and it has some weird stuff that happens when I post.

the site adress is www.badlandscomic.com/s9/

if you go there and hit previous, you'll see the problem. For some reason, past comics using the "comic" plugin show up double, and for some reason, the very first comic headers the page for some reason I can't explain. I was hoping someone could explain it.

Here's a good example of what I'm talking about

http://badlandscomic.com/s9/index.php?/ ... known.html

right now I'm putting my comics in as media in the comics category. Then I designated that category to the web comic plugin so that it assigns them to it. I don't double up the comics when I put them in as media, I don't double click, and the latest one is always fine, but when the next one is put up the next day, the previous one does the double up thing again.

The code I'm using is

<!-- s9ymdb:11 --><img width='654' height='277' style="border: 0px; padding-left: 5px; padding-right: 5px;" src="/s9/uploads/Comics/Badlands118-17-07.JPG" alt="" />

Any ideas? thanks!

Also, If (g_d forbid) you decide to read it while it's in the rough stage it's at the moment, be gentle, it's a work in progress.

Hi!

There are a couple of things thate are wrong, it seems.

1. You have chosen a category icon for your entry categories, and selected a full comic for that. Thus the display of a comic image above the header. That really looks ugly, so you should NOT use a category icon image like this.

2. Can it be that you have entered the <img> tag as the title of an entry? You shouldn'T do that, only paste HTML code into the BODY of an entry! This should be responsible for your duplicate comics.

If that doesn't help, can you please provide a screenshot of how the entry looks like when you edit it?

Garvin

the header thin fixed that problem, thanks, forgot I did that when I was initially playing with my site. The doubled up post thing is still happening thoughl, but it only does it on some of them, which is weird.

Hi!

Please try to enter a title for your blog entry, then it should maybe vanish!?

Using the webcomic plugin

I've installed it, but I can't get it to behave as I want it to behave. Any help would be appreciated. My blog is here at http://www.theporchlight.net/serendipity

My base category is "uncategorized", and the category with which I would like to use comic book formatting is "Taiwan/Japan vacation blah blah blah". With the plugin activated and using the vacation category, the only difference I have seen is the appearance of the First/Previous VCR buttons and the Frontpage link. I have 3 posts in this category, 1 is just text, and 2 are just links to images, and they appear in chronological order from most recent to oldest just as they do in the other categories, and the VCR buttons are greyed out because there are no other pages to go to...

So then I read the doc, which says explictly that the comic formatting should be used in the main body. I guess that equates to default category.

So then I reconfigured the comic plug-in to apply its formatting to "uncategorized". Lo and behold, it behaves exactly the same way. I have quite a few posts in that category, and they all appear on the same page. I thought that only one post would appear at a time, and then the reader would scroll through them using the VCR buttons. Is my understanding incorrect, or have I made an error in my configuration?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

p.s. Currently, my web page is configured to use the default category of "uncategorized", and the comic plug-in is configured to apply to "taiwan/japan vacation".
