Hi,
I'm using the 0.8.2 version and my question is : if I upgrade to 0.8.3, will it also upgrade automaticaly my plugins ? I mean, I'm for example using the static page plugin ver1.7 Will the upgrade of s9y up to date automaticaly the static page plugin to its latest version or do I have to update all my plugins manually ?
The same for the others plugins : statistics, spam protector, pdf, html nugget, etc...
Thanks for your answer,
Jr Prod
Btw : how will it be with the s9y 0.9 version ?

Only bundled plugins will be affected by the upgrade; external plugins need to either be manually upgraded or via Spartacus (it shows a red icon in the plugin installation screen for updatable plugins).
BTW, Serendipity 0.8.4 was just released, you should upgrade to that version, if you'Re about to upgrade right now.
There are no plans currently to change the behavior of plugin upgrading. There is always much magic involved in upgrading, and it takes some time because of HTTP connections. Thus the installer/upgrade shouldn't try to upgrade multiple plugins at once, as this might easily introduce breaks.

What is the policy in upgrades?
It seems they are fairly frequent.
Although I only have 1 blog I am starting to setup I can only imagine what it will be for someone having to worry about upgrading when they have many blogs (shared or not).

I don't know if I understand correctly?
Our policy is that we announce new versions on the forums plus on blog.s9y.org. We suggest to subscribe to the RSS feed of the blog, at least the Announcement category and Security category.
Upgrading in all versions is easy by just unpacking the new files, the rest is performed automatically.
Usually we only have new versions every 2-3 months. However because of the XML-RPC issues with the bundled library we were pressed to release 2 additional fix releases. Hopefully this will not happen again.

Garvin

I think this point should be made a sticky and in bold letters. I have seen this repeated over the forum a gazillion times.
