smarty.class.php parse errors after OK install

Parse error: parse error, unexpected '{' in /serendipity/bundled-libs/Smarty/libs/Smarty.class.php on line 1804
appears when I try to access the blog index page.

You seem to have uploaded a bad serendipity package. In the distributed files there is no parse error in this line.
Please redownload the serendipity release and compare that file with the one in the archive. I am sure you had connection errors with your FTP client or so when uploading the files.
