Hi all... sorry I did a quick search and couldn't find an answer...

I would like a few of my catergories to be 'private' (that is only a subset of people can view them)... I have seen discussion of this being avalible in version .9 (i'm currently using .8.2.0 (the latest I could find on the site) and can't find a way to do it in that version.

Any help would be great!! Thanks in advance

In serendipity 0.9 you can make entries available to specific usergroups; but that is done based on entries, not categories.

But your request does make sense and I'll put this in a new plugin!

0.9 is already available as a snapshot. It is pretty solid right now, so you can have a try.

However I did not yet find time to code your plugin. :)

Would it be possible have a category that was hidden from normal view?

This would go well with the option to include parts of an entry in another entry or plugin.

Scenario - the hidden catagory is basically a simple database of items. Other articles can pick parts of these hidden entries to include in their entry.

On a parallel topic it was already requested to be able to set read privileges to categories, so that you can show certain categories only to yourself, only to co-author or specific authorgroups.

I will work on that feature soon. :)
