under administration + configuration I set URL rewriting to use apache mod_rewrite

After the save the style formatting was missing. Viewing the blogs main page resulted in a 403 error and i could not access the site.

deleting the .htaccess file returned access with the site having no style formatting.

Resetting the URL rewriting to the default fixed the styling and access problems

The .htaccess file follows:

Code: Select all

# BEGIN s9y
ErrorDocument 404 /s9/index.php
DirectoryIndex /s9/index.php
php_value session.use_trans_sid 0
php_value register_globals off

RewriteEngine On

You can only enable mod_rewrite if your server supports it. Serendipity cannot detect that, it must rely on the user knowing what he's doing.

Only the installer can perform that check easily, and I think we can expect users to know if their hosts support mod_rewrite or not...?
