database problem

Error received:
Could not connect to database; check your settings.
The mySQL error was: Unknown MySQL Server Host 'localhost ' (1)
Installing
s9y_200405021337.tar.gz
I have installed dozens of various programs, never had this b4
Wots up?????
Update:
Installed an older version which went well, then uploaded latest and overwrote, ran update and all was well. Awesome program.
This is the only one out of about 20 I have tested as a designer that has the photo upload and thumbnail function, well done! Now if I can configure the full size image popup to be sized to the picture, MT is in trouble
One prob tho, the shoutbox...can't delete any of them (Renamed comments). Any fix for this?
Also when I go to add an image to an article, it opens a window with 2 boxes, choose # of images to display, when I click go, nothing happens, same window there. Same thing in admin to manage images
I expect some of this with a new release, maybe I should go back to older one...

Hi Bruce!
About your mysql-issue: I also received that once and never had it before. Setting the database host to '127.0.0.1' solved the issue though.
This is Now if I can configure the full size image popup to be sized to the picture, MT is in trouble
Could you tell which full size image popup you mean? When inserting an image into your post, that should open as a normal link, not as a popup (currently)?

You need to have logged into your s9y admin suite, then go to your blog again. s9y now sees that you are logged in and displays an "delete" link to your shoutbox and comments.
Also when I go to add an image to an article, it opens a window with 2 boxes, choose # of images to display, when I click go, nothing happens, same window there. Same thing in admin to manage images

It looks like you are referring to the image browser. That can only display items if you uploaded images. Possibly you have to click on "Sync Thumbnails" if you just ftp-uploaded images? If that fails, please post a screenshot of what your window looks like.
The two bars with the Go-button only apply to the sort order of the displayed images. So if there are none, it won't affect any.

Thanks for the reply Garvin,
OK will try. I deleted my install to start new, but grrr...somehow archives and uploads folders got permissions of 770. Deleted database, can't open either folder, no htaccess around...do I have to have folder serendipity2 forever now? lol
Reinstalling and will try again, I do like the program....
Update:
I reinstalled the program, all went perfectly, it created a directory "uploads" It set itself to 770...grrrr I can't open the directory nor can I change the permissions. again ...htaccess don't tell me much...something needed in there? What can I do? Am considering dynamite, but the web host may not like that lol Uploaded photo doesn't show in add photo window, just a broken link.
I tried setting upload path to images instead, chmod to 777, uploaded image, result no thumb there....
I see a file called . cvsignore, it has in it:
index.html
serendipity_config_local.inc.php
.htaccess
uploads
archives
? dunno

setting localhost gave me errors as well. This is getting to be way too much hassle. Even TWiki was easier, and they recomend even webdesigners not to attemp an install.
Anyways, I successfully installed the latest release, last nights tonights whatever...now folder serendipity3
This time uploads directory set itself at 775, can't change it but at least I can view it now...
everything "eventually" went well except...
images upload fine, can be seen in folder and in
thumbs created fine can be seen also
create new entry
widow opens, choose image. ok
another window, placement test etc, click done---nothing happens at all, tried 10 times including rebuilding thumbs
I quit
click done and nothing happens....grrr
this is way too much
I was hoping to write an article that you had beat movable type...
update:
installed serendipity-0.5-pl1.tar.gz
all went well. Images there etc, when adding image to article, second configuring screen (placement, thumb linked etc, when I click done, explorer opens a new window with the code in it, copied and pasted this into article window. Is this the way it is supposed to work? At least in this one something happens when I click done...

0.6-RC2 works here for me for inserting images.
The 0.6.1/0.7/latest CVS snapshot had an error in the image insertion which has just been fixed.
Bruce's troubles with uploading images do not exist here, I guess you must have a problematic user/group setup where s9y can't access what you uploaded via FTP. And maybe you have the imagemagick module activated without having imagemagick installed?!
All is OK

The only thing uploaded via ftp was serendipity itself. No other program has any problems with ImageMagick.
I just got the latest build, hopefully this will do it. The one before was ok as I said, except for what GO said, same problem. If this fixes it, then serendipity is awesome program...to be continued
Appreciate the program muchly, and am looking forward to configuring it
Thanks for all your work and trouble..

This should do it then

OK latest build installed, went good.
Image upload and thumb creation went perfect.
Add photo to article, all goes well.
Choose options for inserting, use thumb as link etc, click done.
New explorer window opens with code in it.
Copied code and pasted into article.
Link to full size image works.
Question:
Is it supposed to work this way with having to copy and paste the code?
1: I started a new article, gave it a title and category.
2: Clicked image,
window opened with image there. clicked on image
3: Another window with options, chose thumb, right aligned, link to pic, clicked done.
4: New ie window with code in it only opens, copied code.
5: Refreshed page, article I started gone, but new blank one there...paste code into article, titled it and saved.
6: Article added with thumb linking to larger image.
Is it supposed to add the code to an article or do we have to copy and paste like this? I was wondering if it is a permissions issue chmod, or is it supposed to add the code into the article?
I don't mean to sound fussy or ungrateful, but am testing this to see what it does and it's potential.
Thanks

Hi Bruce!

This should never happen, how does the window look like exactly? Can you provide a screenshot?
If possible, can you please try the same thing in Mozilla browser and open the JavaScript console and log any errors than occur, if any?
Regards,
Garvin.

BKDesign is pleased to announce that all issues with Serendipity have been resolved
When I tried to add a photo today to an article to show a screenshot of code issue from yesterday, it worked, and not only that, it worked the best by far out of over 20 programs we have installed and configured recently.
I am so impressed with this program I am going to make it our main site program as soon as I style and configure it to my preferences.
woohoo
Thank you Gavin, I am very impressed, and will become a supporter of Serendipity. It is just installed without content, but site is:
http://www.bkdesign.ca/s9y/
Where would I find the code page for photo uploads? I would like to make a few changes

Hi Bruce!
I'm delighted to hear your issues are resolved! Great!
Regarding the image upload stuff: All the files dealign with this are:
* serendipity_admin_image_selector.php (the popup window to select an image)
* serendipity_admin_images.inc.php (image upload and maintaining)
* serendipity_functions_images.inc.php (shared functions)
Hope you'll have a good time with s9y! If you hit any issues or make some improvements, please share them either on the forum or our php-dev mailinglist (you'll probably hit more response on the mailing list). And please take a look at our s9y.org wiki for some documentation, which we're just about to build up.
