Hi,

I'm wondering if it is possible to upload other Microsoft document like Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc. into the blog and then assign these document as attachment into a blog posting.

If not, Can I request if this functionality can be granted to be added?

Yes, use the media library.
You can use all sort of files there and have them linked to your blog entries. If you do need this often you could install the downloadmanager plugin too.

I'm not sure the dl manager really helps if you need it more often, but it gives you a central place for downloads if you offer a lot of them.
