As of yesterday, my Serendipity program is doing some strange things on my PC. When I open it with Firefox 10.2 or Internet Explorer 9,the layout looks fine but when I click on Edit I can't get the tool bars and the html version of the article appears, but nothing else including graphics. When I put it in preview mode the graphics and text appear normally, but I can't edit anything. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox and no improvement. Curiously, the program works okay on other PCs. I'm using an HP All in One Touchsmart 520. Is there any advice about why Serendipity is suddenly incompatible with this PC? Many thanks.

It's very likely Javascript is disabled in these browsers. You should check the respective browser's options to re-enable Javascript.

Thanks-- I'm a moron when it comes the tech aspects. Is there a simple way to re-enable Java script?

I did figure out how to check Java on Firefox and it is enabled. I tried running Serendipity through Google Chrome and it works fine. Very bizarre why it won't work on Firefox and IE.

Beware that it's Javascript, not Java. (There's a difference.) Also, check if you're running any extensions like NoScript which disable JS beyond the browser's internal settings. Unfortunately, there's no common setting for this – there should be some option somewhere in any browser's settings or options to enable/disable it.

It may very well be another issue than that, but this is the one possibility most easy to check out.
