Would it be possible to create a function (don't know if core or as a plugin) that empty the template_c-directory? I think, this would be easier for "normal" users than trying it trough FTP.
Our would it be a solution to extend DBClean with this function?

Well, if you can wait a little bit, I have that included in a development version of the Serendipity Dashboard Plugin.
But this may take its time... while it hasn't even been released as a internal beta yet.

Hi!
In Filezilla I have found the option: "force deleting of hyded files" - After activating this I could delete the template_c-folder. There have been yet not visible files. (That was an old folder left after a manual update, when I copied several newer files into several folder.)
I have read about the problem here:

and here

Just for the record (I guess you didn't mean that, but it's ambiguous): You
don't want to delete templates_c
itself but
only files living
inside the folder templates_c.

There is still such a folder for my recently running blogsystem.
I mentioned the rest of an older version. While updating (in 2010) I got, so far I remember now, the message, that special folders or files wasn´t updated. - So I have uploaded (or only copied?) folders and files of the new version with Filezilla in the needed folders, perhaps in another root folder, so I could after it the old version delete - what at all wasn´t working - the problem I guessed what bernd_d explained here.
