Language choice and administration

Post by jmatos »

Hi:

I have just started experimenting with serendipity (version 0.8).
I chose portuguese barzilian as the blog's language.

I am wondering if the following problem is a real bug or something I missed during installation:

-- I access the blog (language displayed portuguese);
-- Go to administration;
-- Go back to blog (language displayed is now english; seeing portuguese requires exiting Firefox and opening it again; my language preferences in Firefox start with pt and s9y configuration points to using this).

Can someone give a clue about this? Cookies? Bad installation?

TIA,

P.S. - I have started "translating" the portuguese brazilian language file to european portuguese and am 1/3 of the way through. Will submit it in a few days (I hope).

This sounds like you have enabed the "Language autodetection" feature in your s9y installation and your browser transmits "english" as favoured language; try to either disable the language autodetection or configure your browse to submit "pt" as Accept-Language?

Thanks but I think you misunderstood. Putting it in another way: "Language autodetection" works as long as no administrative chores are started.

My browser does accept "pt" as Accept-Language. It is the highest rated. "en-us" and "en" are lower.

Yes; as soon as you are logged in to your blog (means: A cookie is set and/or a session is started) your selected language in your author profile will get preference over any HTTP browser language detection.

You could use the LiveHTTPHeaders extension for Firefox and then look at the HTTP Headers you receive; Serendipity buts a "X-Interface-Lang: Database" headers into the output so to see which is used...

Garvin
