Fixed wide blog comment links screw layout

Post by rj »

I recently decided to go with a fixed wide blog at 1024. There is an aesthetic value
in keeping the layout consistent. People seem to like consistency. :)

In trying to get comments going better, I added a 150 sidebar so I could put the join comment plugin closer to the top to be seen and to make it easy for users to see themselves and respond.

When a user adds a string without a break which is longer than 150px, it spreads both sidebars out into the netherworld making a mess! That plugin uses the FIRST line of the comment and in todays case the user left the link and nothing else so it was the first line. IT was rather long. I have run into this same issue in the comment field itself. Someone did a .999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% (longer than the 525 entry window which also made a big mess of things
Can anything be done about this? Some forced break code somewhere or something?

Thanx

Any chance of a live example of this?
