Admin Suite Login

I have Serendipity 1.5.3 up and running but when I try to log into the Admin Suite I continually get:
"You appear to have entered an invalid username or password"
I checked the dbhost name and password in the serendipity_config_local.inc.php, which do not work.
The user name and password I entered upon installation do not work.
I deleted the serendipity_config_local.inc.php file and went through the process again, re-entering everything . . . with the same result. Please advise.
