My goal is to restrict which users can see my blog via accounts.

Basically users have to login to see my postings… I don’t what them to have admin access just “view” access.

I know I can apply a user account system on top of serendipity to accomplish this but I’m wondering if there is anything native to serendipity that can do this? Looking at the plugins I have found "User Self-Registration” which sound like they are in the ballpark but there is so little documentation on them I can’t tell.

Something like aMember can give you options.... but even aMember leaves something to be desired. I did this recently for someone and used a combination of aMember, a custom sidebar plugin, and a custom template. What I liked about my own approach was that I could reveal the entry body to everyone, but protect the extended body (ie, "read more....") to members only.

What you COULD do using just serendipity is to create one or more user groups for protected content, assigning virtually no privileges to this group other than the ability to maintain their personal user settings. Next, create one or more categories and assign read access to for this category to the user group you created earlier.

Those who belong to the protected group will be able to see the protected content, while those who do not will see "No Entries to print". As I mentioned earlier, I preferred my solution because I can show a "teaser" or introduction to the entry to the world, while allowing access to the premium portion of the same entry to just members.
