Serendioty 101 for 2010?

Post by itsafreeman »

Using Serendipity with Godaddy, for complex reasons that make it necessary. Setting up a basic web/blog site. Do I need Serendipty sql in my root directory for the home page? Is there a manual for basic Serendipity site setup?

Is there a good book in English that would work as a reference manual?

Thanks,

Do *NOT* install serendipity via godaddy... install it yourself.

Godaddy has a control panel where you can create a database. Create a new database, paying particular attention to the database host/address, database name, user and password.

Next, connect to your account via FTP or their file manager. If you want serendipity to power your entire site, upload the serendipity files to the root folder, otherwise, upload to a subfolder, such as /blog/, /serendipity/, etc.

After all files are uploaded, go to your site with your favorite browser, ie, http://www.yoursite.com/, or http://www.yoursite.com/blog/. The serendipity installation should begin automatically.

Unfortunately there is no serendipity reference book printed in English. There are documents here: http://www.s9y.org/33.html, but they are admittedly in need of refinement.
