newbie: Trackback e-mail, but trackbacks 0 at blog

Hi,

This may be perfectly normal. I get an e-mail that says a trackback has been added to a blog entry, but when I go to the entry it shows 0 trackbacks. In each case, the e-mail is clearly spam that has nothing really to do with the subject of the entry.

I'm guessing that this could be because:

1. spam-blocking (perhaps the black-list service) got it and deleted it (?). This means the spam testing comes after the e-mail is generated.

2. the people generating the spam trackback simply removed the trackback right after making it. (?)

As you can see, I don't know how this works well enough to even speculate on it. Is there a way to get the IPs of the spammers so I can add them to some kind of blocking list locally (assuming that #1 wasn't what happened. If that's what happened I don't need to block them myself)?

I tried to search, but am drawing a blank on how to draw out just the posts I need regarding this. I am sorry if this is redundant.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi!

Most probably, you get a notifcation, but the anti-spam plugin filters that trackback for you, so it does not show up yet. You would need to go to your s9y admin panel into the 'Comments' section and approve the trackback first.

To not get notifications of spam-trackbacks, you can configure the anti-spam plugin to "reject" instead of "moderate".

HTH,
Garvin

Thanks Garvin, it helps a lot.

The solution was much more embarrassing than this. I was looking at the "entries" for evidence of pending trackbacks. After reading your message it was clear that I should have been looking at the "comments".
