Can't add plugins to left sidebar

Post by newjohn »

I am trying to customize the template "Idea" but I can't move any plugins to the left sidebar. The preview screenshot that comes with the template shows it having three columns (left sidebar, middle section, right sidebar), but every time I add a sidebar plugin from the Configure Plugins page, it gets added to the right sidebar. When I try to drag the plugin to the left, it just goes back to the right side. It's like the Configure Plugins page doesn't even recognize that there is a left sidebar, even though it says "left" at the top of the (empty) left column.

Any ideas about how to add plugins to both sidebars? I have searched the forums extensively and I didn't find anyone who had this problem. One possible solution I came across was to modify the index.tpl or sidebar.tpl files, but the Idea template doesn't come with either of those. Lastly, Idea's stylesheet mentions left and right sidebars a couple times, so I know it's designed for both. Thanks,

John

Hi!

When you drag and drop, move the item over the left side in the admin panel until the border of that area gets highlighted. Only then the area gets "droppable".

Plugins can only be moved to ONE sidebar, if you want it in both, you need to install it in both sidebars (if the plugin allows it, not every plugin can be installed multiple times).

Garvin, thanks, that worked, eventually. I'm still puzzled about why the left column wouldn't get highlighted before, but I just moved the plugin around until I saw the border of the left column appear and then dropped it. (I promise I tried that before! In case it would have been useful, I even took a screen shot of my mouse dragging the plugin to the left because the only thing that was happening was the the plugin kept getting wider and wider and wouldn't move over.) Moving it slower seemed to help.
