comment register login

OK, got the main complaint from both newbies and registered users regarding comments.
90% of my 2000 visitors a day arrive at an article, not the blog.
Many many have cookies turned off so they have to log in to comment, same with a new person who registers.

They click comments, and have the choice to REGISTER or LOGIN.
After they do so, they are taken to the admin screen, they then have to find and figure out what WEBLOG means. The few who take the time to figure that out, click on it and to their HORROR it loads the full blog (quite a wait for an video heavy blog), then they have to go find their article again, hit comment again, wait for the article itself to load, and then comment.
Many tell me that it is so time consuming they just do not bother.
In fact they all give me the same answer to the problem.

When they click the comment button and then click go at the login screen, it should take them DIRECTLY to the article with comments open for them.
NOT loading the admin screen, then loading the full blog, then loading the article... Those first TWO steps should be eliminated.
Can we do that?

thanx

rj

Hi!

Install the sidebar plugin "Login form". :-)

Or allow to comment without registering. That's more work for you then, but either you or your readers have to do extra work. Your call :-)

Garvin

Is that one called Author Login?

I tried no registration in the past and started getting spam...
Can you do catspas without registration?
Like open comments but require a catspa?

I have also notices on many blogs no registration but they have to type in a valid email address. I understand it doesnt have to be real email but it does deter robots I suppose.

Did you already try to use Akismet and get rid of the registration? Really, having to do something like this ought to be the biggest blockade. And yes, you can activate captchas in the spamblock-setting without registration, but I'd first try Akismet.

Thanx I had forgotten about all that...
I think I got it where I want it now, but in the process I lost the ability I had just found a few weeks ago of being able to reply numerous times on the same screen without having to reload...
I forgot how do do that. I have a forgetting problem but I forget what its called. :)

Thanx
RJ

I covered this tip in my blog, maybe you want to document such tricks in a local wiki? Garvin explained it to you here.

Hey thanks, I did a search and got that code and appled it myself just after I wrote that.
There is a problem with running the blog from two computers... Forget to transfer a edited file back to the other computer... :)
