Cannot access my weblog, please help

Hello,
I inherited a website using serendipity about 6 months ago so I'm a newbie. I searched the board and it seems that someone else posted this error and it's related to a plugin, but I got this error without updating or adding any plugin or preference. I believe it was generated after updating an entry:

Fatal error: Cannot create references to/from string offsets nor overloaded objects in /www/cgi/include/functions_entries.inc.php on line 1037

This error is shown in IE7 and Firefox 3.0.7 and I cannot access the weblog anymore.
Any clues to solve this problem will be very welcome, since this website contains a lot of information.

Are you using the latest serendipity version, and latest versions of all your installed plugins?
