Hi,
where does the error lie?
I get notified for trackbacks but not for pingbacks.
Any support appreciated.
Cheers
Dirk

Hi!
There's no error, Serendipity does not notify you for pingbacks; pingbacks are not really meant as "content" like comments or trackbacks, so the original implementation does not send out a mail.

Hi Garvin,
I missed your answer for any reason. Sorry!
This one is really annoying. Many (most) Wordpress Blogs are sending pingbacks and no trackbacks.
That results in two issues:
1. I get no notification.
2. If a Wordpress blogger edits his posting I get an other (duplicate) pingback.
Can you please check?
Thannks for your support.
Dirk

Hi!
Technically, the implementation could be changed to support notifications of course. But I don't like pingbacks, so I'm not willing to put my free time into this concept.
As for duplicate pingbacks: Yes, s9y has no incoming "redundancy" rule. But it is a conceptual problem whether you want updated pingbacks or not. Usually, a ping tells you "look here". When you change something, this usually also has a reason, so conceptually I would think that in fact you should get a new notification...

Garvin

I understand that ... in an ideal world everyone would use s9y ... but, you know, this world is far from beeing an ideal one.

Agreed, what about deleting the old one in this case? (And really get any kind of notification ...).
Cheers

That's a good idea; the old one could be updated in this case. Any developers reading this thread, who might want to try out the implementation? I could offer technical advice.

Garvin

You might also notice that pingbacks will not be displayed in the trackback list unless there is an actual trackback to the same entry. At least I recall experiencing it on two occasions. Might be related to my individual template, however. (I really don't care about pingbacks, so whatever.)

I don't understand this negative attitude towards pingback. It's not that I like the system more than trackbacks, especially because trackbacks show an excerpt. But I often stumble upon problems when trying to send a trackback to a wordpress-blog, and many times it was not possible to send a trackback to me. Sometimes even the Pingback failed...
It's not nice to be isolated from so many blogs. So please, consider this as important.
sincerely

hm, I don not know if we talk about the same thing, but I get a pingback shown on my s9y-blog:

Hi onli!
What you are referring to is a completely different aspect. Many WP blogs to not have proper Trackback-RDF-Metadata, so s9y cannot autodetect their URLs; often you have to use the "manual trackback" plugin to fix this. Recent s9y versions have started a WP-compatibility flag that automatically adds "/trackback/" to a URL you refer to in a blog article.
Sending and receiving trackbacks and pingbacks should work (if it doesn't, we need specific cases - so far, all problems have always been solved here on the forums). This thread is about pingback notification and pingback updates, this is nothing that arises compatibility and connectivity issues...

Garvin
