mass picture upload

Hi
since my gallery-import doesn't work as planned, I am looking for other ways to handle pictures.
Is there a way to integrate a complete folder, which already is on the same server, into the s9y media library? Or can I mass upload the complete contents of a folder? Or best of all, link the contents of an existing folder into the media library ...
Anything but the "one picture at a time and do everything yourself" upload of the standard installation ...
