I am in the planning stages of a website project and I am interested in input and/or advice. The URL for the website (as it currently exists) is http://HealingCommunity.info Clicking through to the discussion forum will take a person to the current forum platform we are using. I mention this so a person might investigate who we are, why we want a discussion forum, and why we want to redesign the forum.
That being said here is what we want to create:
The plan:
A website / educational forum with dynamic pages
Subscriber lists
Free and paid subscribers
Client lists
Clients may or may not be subscribers to the blog
Weblog/discussion forum
(free and paid subscribers - see above)
Clinic and client functionality (security required)
Schedule and calendar functionality
Client chart notes
Billing records
Inventory
Research database on an HTML PHP MySQL interface
(Possibly this could be a Wiki database)
- I have a Filemaker relational database which I would want to replicate/ recreate on an HTML PHP MySQL interface. I use this for client services and compilation of research. It is functional as it stands but I would rewrite it for the new interface. In the process I would redesign some of the relational keys and make it a more modular solution.

Presently the project is at the analysis phase. Before I get too far along I need to see what is possible, and understand how it can be accomplished. I don't want to become dependent on an outside consultant to write the code. I am somewhat computer savvy - (I designed the Filemaker database) but I am just a beginner with HTML PHP MySQL. I am aware that there are many open source resources which could be incorporated in to creating the solution I am interested in building. I need to learn enough about PHP
and MySQL to understand how these resources could be integrated, and
how it might be accomplished. The project would cost thousands (10's of thousands) if I paid someone to do it. I have no money to apply to the project. I could trade or barter for some services.
The real purpose is of course not to make money, we want the website to be an educational resource for people to learn about healing and planetary change. We will use it for our business, and we will use our business to fund the creation of the resource.

QUESTIONS:
Feasibility - estimates for the skill and time it would require
Software - recommendations for software to use
Serendipity looks good, like the open source philosophy
Best practices - suggestions on CMS methodology, commenting HTML etc
Resources to research - Sites, recommendations for reference materials.
Am I too ambitious?
