Code issues with HTML NUGGET

Post by rj »

I had thought much of my troubles were with HTMLarea in this regard but now using the new Xinha I find the same issues. Perhaps it is the way I am doing things?

The problem comes up often but is always the case with Adsense and Blogads <script>, all video embed code from any NBC source, and some others.

I go to the html source in the editor, paste in the code, switch to the WYS editor and the code changes, sometimes so much all the code disappears or is replace by code for a space. In fact adsense code is reduced to a tiny line of script that doesnt work at all. There is a way out with adsense by using the adsense plugin, but many of the other problems I run into I cant seem to find a solution.

I think I am missing something! :) Like using something other than HTML NUGGET?

thanx,

RJ

Before inserting pure html code into a nugget, perhaps you should go to your personal settings, change your preference for wysiwyg editor to "no", then go to your html nugget and enter the code and save it. Be sure to turn off markup for the nugget, especially the nl2br markup if you have that plugin installed (which is never a good idea when you are using the nl2br plugin).

EDIT: Looks like Garvin recently posted much the same response here:

Ah yes... I really knew that was the answer, but I didnt like it! :)

How about somethingn in the advanced options box? Or in taht markup turn off box?

turn off WYSIWHG editor for this message only CHECK!

I also wonder if there is a way toget Live Writer to push the message past the WYSIWYG editor?

Or better yet in the commands on the left, right below NEW ENTRY have NEW ENTRY WITH BASIC EDITOR!

Ou... thats the ticket! :)

Oh and Garvin is really really correct about going back to one of those and editing it. Once you hit Save it all goes to hell. :)

So I take it if you turn WYSIWHYG off then the Plugins bypass it too?

"off" means off for anything edited/created by that user - entries, nuggets, static pages, etc. I personally never use it, although I will test certain functionality with it. I see little advantage using it at all - you get basic bold, italics, blocquotes, etc using the html editor without all the bloat injected by the wysiwyg editor.

My experience, especially in multi-user scenarios, is that authors end up changing fonts, colors, sizes, all kinds of things multiple times while they edit their entry, and by the time they are done, they may have doubled the true character count of the entry with a bunch of excess markup they may not even realize is there.... or they end up with unclosed tags that end up breaking the page.

I hear you, but these are the days of mulitmedia... :)

Its not really a matter of bold and fonts, I have very seldom used any of that, its use is primarily for graphics. They need many commands, like indent, align, width, _blank, alt name, link and so on.

I do almost 10 articles a day, and everyone has graphics or videos.
Plus I have a NEWBIE helper who could not handle straight code.
AT ALL!! :) hehe...
