By following the traffic for my blog KICK! I have found myself as the place for embedded humorous political videos. It was not the plan but here I am.

NBC video embed codes, whether NBC, SNL, or MSNBC (all different code - in fact the MSNBC is <iframe> rather than <embed>) create all sorts of problems for the blog. Most other embed source work okay.

I can often see the problem when in HTMLarea I click between code and WYS screens, the code changes. Quite often if I do one it works, but if I ever go back and fix something unrelated to the embed code and save it a second time, it all goes to hell.

Sometimes it refuses to show all articles below it on page one.
Sometimes it doubles up the video with the last NBC embed under an older title.
Sometimes it just disappears though it is there listed in the EDIT ARTICLE list.

trying to find anything out from NBC doesn not work. Nor can I find anyone having the same problem in any forums. I wonder where to go with this... Is it Serenedipity? Is it the old HTMLarea editor? Anybody have any ideas?

Hi!

Definitely HTMLArea. It does not deal well with <iframe> and <embed> stuff. This you would need to add/edi twithout the WYSIWYG editing component.

s9y 1.4 will have the Xinha editor, I believe this should play much nicer with <iframe> and <embed> stuff. However getting that to work in WYSIWYG environments is very, very tricky and technically challenging.

Ah, good info Garvin!
So now that I am using Live Writer as my primary editor, I can click off WYSIWYG edtior in Serendipty (defaut to that little code editor) and Live Writer will bypass HTMLarea, which it is NOT doing at present?
Is that right?

Yes, exactly. You now only need to rely on Windows Live Writer that it does not mess with your iframe/embed HTML coding

Funny you should say that!
On both SNL and MSNBC videos Live Writer says INVALID CODE and will not allow the paste.
That is in ADD VIDEO but going to HTML the code goes in and works on the blog. But there is no doubt than NBC is playing with crappy video code on all their sites.
