Geotag Google Map - how is it working, who is using it?

Hello,
I would kindly like to ask for a showcase / example of a site using the Geotag Google Map - Plugin to decide whether it would be helpful for me or not.

I am searching for a way to achieve the following tasks:

1. geotag entries of my blog with GPS coordinates (should be possible)
2. include a Google Map in the article (via iframe) by using the entered coordinates OR/AND offer a generated Link to open a Map Service (Google Map) with the entered coordinates.
3a. show a map of all geotagged entries an gives the possibility to open a article by clicking on the marker in the map (should be possible as far as I understand it, but the plug-in is filed under Sidebar. Does this mean, that the map must be in the sidebar and therefor has a very limited size?)
3b. give the opportunity to filter the map entries by a category.

I appreciate any advice and help.
Thank you!

Hi!

Sadly I cannot offer a showcase/example, but maybe you simply try out the plugin (maybe on a temporary blog). What it does is:

1. Show a google map when you create an entry, where you can enter the location assigned with your entry

2. Show a sidebar plugin in the frontend which shows dots on a map for the entries you made. The plugin supports to either show the locations used from your RSS feed, OR straight from the same page. What you seem to want to do is to enhance that option to not only display the points of the entries on your current startpage, but also from the current category. The google API does support that, but since I don't use the plugin myself I can't really tell if you can easily achieve that by using the option to display items based on the entries currently shown on your blog.

As for your embedding of a google map in the article, you currently need to do this by copy+paste the javascript code into your entry. I believe the plugin itself only embeds the map in the sidebar, not in the entry itself. This is to prevent multiple google maps showing up in every entry.

HTH,
Garvin

Thank you for the really fast reply, i am already trying to setup a temporary blog. If someone else is using the plugin, a link would still be appreciated. :D

Edit: My own page with my version of geotagging articles and showing in a map is described in Showcase.
