No entries to print

Serendipity 1.3 and PHP 4.3.10 + MySQL 3.23.56.

Just completely reinstalled Serendipity and built a new database added my first entry and gone to view it but there's nothing there "No entries to print". Equally when I go to edit it there's nothing there "No entries to print".

This is the same problem as before except last time I was able to add three entries before it crashed. I can see the data in the database. Unfortunately I have no control over the version of MySQL. This MySQL version runs ok with phpBB & Menalto Gallery.

Any thoughts?

Hi!

What's your URL? Have you tried phpMYAdmin and see if any of the tables are marked as crashed or corrupt?

Maybe you have changed the Permalink options or URL rewriting?

Apart from that, I belive I've already mentioned your MySQL is so old that it's terribly slow and insecure. You should really think about switching service providers if yours does not upgrade mysql. This version is 5 Years old - imagine you were still working with Windows 95... :-)

Garvin

Thanks for the suggestions.

No I've not altered Permalink options or URL rewriting.

Tell me about the old versions of software that my ISP is running. Believe me I am trying to dump them!

With phpMYAdmin I ran a 'Check table', no errors reported. Then I ran a 'Repair table', no errors reported. However when I went back to check the blog the entry is suddently there!

I'm reluctant to use Serendipity until I understand what is going on and how to prevent it from happening in the future. Any further ideas?

Hi!

Hm, this does sound like a database structural integrity problem to me.

You use the same URL like you used before to access the now-again appearing blog? No difference in "www." vs. "no-www"? Did you change anything else, like log in or log out to your s9y backend?

Regards,
Garvin

Yes identical URL. I don't think I logged out of Serendipity whilst doing the phpMYAdmin stuff, although I have logged in and out while trying to resolve the problem pre phpMYAdmin. Nothing else has changed.

Serendipity 1.3.1 and PHP 4.3.10 + MySQL 3.23.56.

Every single entry on my blog has disappeared again today after adding a new entry. However this time running a check, optimize and repair on all tables makes no difference, no errors were reported and I cannot get the blog back. Everything is there in the database but there is no content to see or anything to edit in the admin section.

I just created a test category, as I had none, and suddenly all my entries came back! Do I need to have at least one category?

Hi!

No, categories are not required to create entries. If the problem comes back suddenly, it would be good if you could give me temporary FTP access to your installation to let me have a look. I've never heard of such sporadic issues.
